Course Textbook Chapter Problem
Calculus Based Physics Physics (7th) by Cutnell, Johnson 21 26
Question Details:
A 45 m length of wire is stretched horizontally between two vertical posts. The wire carries a current of 68 A and experiences a magnetic force of 0.15 N. Find the magnitude of the earth's magnetic field at the location of the wire, assuming the field makes an angle of 50.5° with respect to the wire.

Response:
♦ F=I*[L × H], where I = 65A, |F| = 0.15N, |L|=45m, |H| is magnetic field to be found;
♥ |F| = I* |[L × H]| = I* |L| *|H| *sin(50.5°);
hence |H| = |F| /{I*|L|*sin(50.5°)} =0.665·10(-6) Tl;
