Choice (d) Momentum Not kinetic enrgy.
 
Pasrt of the initial kinetic enrgy is used upor diipated in doing work in piercing the block.
Or part of K is converted into elastic potential enrgy. So total K befoe collision is NOT = total K after collision.
This is an inelastic collision.
