I can't seem to get the answer...
Course Textbook Chapter Problem
Algebra Based Physics College Physics (7th) by Serway, Faughn, Bennett 26 19P
Question Details:
I've been trying to solve this problem in a variety of ways and seem to get nowhere.
Given:
lighter mass: 2.50e-28kg
heavier mass: 1.65e-27kg
v1=.893c
I used these formulas and don't know how to solve from my last step:
P2=P1= γ1 m1 v1 = (2.5e-28) (.893c) / √1-(.893)
=4.96e-28)c

And P2=γ2 m2 v2
(1.65e-27 kg) v2 / √1-(v2 /c)2

So
3.33 (v2 /c)= √1-(v2 /c)2

And now I don't know how to solve for v2.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Response:
I don't know what the initial problem was, and assuming that your work is correct to get to that point, to solve for V2, you would just square both sides, and you'd get

3.332(v22/ c2) = 1 - (v22/c2)

then v22/c2 + 3.332(v22/ c2) = 1
and 12.0889(v22/ c2) = 1

and v22 = c2/12.0889

v2 = √(c2/12.0889)
