Just a question about the appropriate mathematical term
Course Textbook Chapter Problem
N/A N/A N/A N/A
Question Details:
What is the term used to define an inconsistent plot on a line graph, like one that doesn't correlate with any of the other data on the graph? i want to say paradox but that doesn't ring the right bell. and it's not just "an inconsistency", its a semi-rare term.

I believe "outlier" is the word you are looking for. Not all outliers end up being statistically insignificant, so you shouldn't always "write them off" just because they look funny, but I believe that is the term you are searching for.

I'll go ahead and give you a helpful since you did answer the question correctly. Even though I was thinking of the word Anomaly. Thanks.

That may be one correct way to say it. But that's not the word I'm looking for. It's a more broad term, it doesn't just apply to a line graph, that was just an example.
