The predicate of a sentence is everything that follows the subject. The predicate will have verbs, adverbs, maybe some nouns and some other types of words.

I would say that the sentence that has the compound predicate in this question would be C.

It says she washed the shells and dried them in the sun.

This is only answer that has a single subject and has the subject doing two things within one given sentence. The sentence could very easily be written as two sentences as follows:

She washed the shells. She dried them in the sun.

This is the only answer that you would be able to break apart into two sentences and still have the same subject.

Answer: C
