Response Details:

  * ΣFx ≠ 0 for the isolated cylinder at imminent slipping.
  * A hypothesis is made that slipping occurs simultaneously at D and E but this (false) hypothesis is
     left unchecked.

Reposted below is my solution to this problem (from last week).  The answer in the back of the book is Pmax = 7.72 lb (no mention as to where slipping occurs first - top or bottom).
