A 0.2 ft3 aluminum bar, initially at 206°F, is placed in an open tank together with 4 ft3 of liquid water, initially at 70°F. For the water and the bar as the system, determine the final equilibrium temperature, in °F, ignoring heat transfer between the tank and its surroundings.

specific heat: cAl = 0.897 J/g-K, cwater = 4.18 J/g-K
density: ρAl = 2.7 g/cm3, ρwater = 1.0 g/cm3
volume: VAl = 0.2 ft3, Vwater = 4 ft3
temperature: TAl = 206 F, Twater = 70 F
Find final temperature T.
ρAl *VAl * cAl *(TAl - T) = ρwater *Vwater * cwater *(T - Twater)
plug all known values and get
T = 73.8 F
