Question Details:
It is desired to transfer maximum power to the load Z in the circuit of Fig 11.45.  Find Z and the maximum power.  Let is=5cos40t Amps.

First we need to calculate thevinen equivaleant of the circuit.
 
Thevenin impedance is
 
 
 
To find the Vth
 
 
open circuit voltage is voltage across 12Ω resistor
 
current through 12Ω Resistor is
 

 
∴Thevenin equivalent for the above circuit is
 
To transfer maximum power through the load Z must be complex conjugate of the thevenin impedance
 
Z=8.0075+j0.325
 
∴maximum power through the load is =
