Given circuit diagram:
 
      
 
Inductor voltage ......... (1)
For inductor acts as short circuit and maximum current flowing through the inductor.
Given that when t = 0 the switch is opened and a voltmeter is connected across it.
At this instant the value of  almost negligible, so voltage across inductor is very HIGH at this instant.
Due to this heavy voltage arc will appear at the switch and voltmeter also damaged due to this voltage.
