double integral and iterated integral question

Question Details:
What is the difference between a double integral and an iterated integral? Because when I try to solve a double integral they set up the bounds of the integrals differently than from an iterated integral. Thank you.

An iterated integral is used to introduce the concept of a double integral.

With the iterated integral you are integrating over a rectangular region where the intervals for
both x and y are constants.

With double integrals you are integrating over a more general region where the inner integral integrated over some region as a function of x or y.  The bounds for the outer integral are constants.

The big difference is that the double integral allows you to find the volume of  some function that is bounded  in the xy plane by a more general region rather than just a rectangular region.
