Excessive secretion of male sex hormones results in premature sexual maturation in males, and masculization of sexual characters in females.  The disorder is called adrenogenital syndrome, and in Switzerland there is an autosomal recessive form of the disease that affects 1 in 5000 newborn children.  (a) What is the expected frequency of the disease among offspring of first cousins (F = 1/16)? (b) What is the ratio of the expected disease frequency in the offspring of first cousins to the expected frequency in a randomly mating population? (Scale so that the random mating frequency is equal to 1.)

a)         The expected frequency of the disease in the population =1/5000 =2 X  10  -4
 
  The inbreeding coefficient of offspring of first cousins= F = 1/16

 b)         The expected frequency of the disease among the offspring of first cousin

 =2 X  10  -4     X   1/16  = .125  X   10  -4
